1 Introduction

This document defines the Royalty Reporting Profile of the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite and was developed by member organisations of the Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX).  Any organisation wishing to implement this (or any other DDEX standard) is required to apply for an Implementation Licence. Information about the Implementation Licence, its terms and conditions can be found here and access to an application form can be found on here.

The Sales/Usage Reports defined in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (DSR) provide mechanisms for licensees (typically digital service providers or DSPs) to report to licensors (typically music rights societies and/or music publishers) data regarding the level of sales and/or usage generated from the exploitation on audio only services of electronic releases containing sound recordings and/or music videos which embody musical works and/or other resources.

The Sales/Usage Report defined in this Part 6 of the DSR standard is for reporting all sales and/or usage data where a direct contractual relationship exists between the licensee and an individual licensor, rather than a licensor (such as a collective management organisation for musical works) acting on behalf of several other licensors. This profile differs from the Basic Audio Profile defined in Part 3 by communicating actual royalty data relevant to the licensor, instead of the data necessary to enable the licensor to calculate royalties due.

This Profile is not intended to be used for royalties based on “statutory rate” calculations as those require a different data set to calculate the royalties.
